Pictures of "Ghetto America" I have found on the web that draws up deep feeling and/or emotion of urban life in America. I take no credit in actually taking these pictures. To me it is art. How far are you willing to go to get that shot? Where is the most dangerous place you have been with a camera? post your pictures.

You got any pix to you can send me? Are you from Chicago? I was there a few years back at the (2800W / 2300N) block near Logan Square/ California stop on the Subway Milwaukee/Kennedy Expressway (O'Hare) Branch Line.
Chicago is a beautiful city. It also has a whole lot to do with our nations money. Every city has it's bad parts. Of course a big city will have a bigger ghetto.
Those pictures are of Cabrini Green and they no longer there .. The city moved those people out and spread them out into the far northern burbs where alot of wealthy people live.. Now the neighborhoods they occupy are turning into ghettos... go figure..it is sad to say it but they don't care about community and don't want to work to get ahead.. they are perfectly ok with getting a government check and having a dozen kids that they can't care for ... More for me to support makes me sick...

I knew Cabrini Green in the 90s and it's a far more complex situation now, after uprooting people who had only ever know that rough and poor community.
No body asks to be poor, stigmatized
and misunderstood.
Being ghettoized has nothing to do with color or status, or if you're wealthy or poor.
Lot of fancy people are ghettoized in their gated communities.
I tried to take some pictures of the ghetto in Phoenix but some mexicans stole my camera and beat me up :(
Of course Chicago has ghettos it's right down the freeway from Detroit!
Gary is just making Chicago worst. All of the Chicago ghettos is by Gary, not closer to Illinois. The Illinois ghetto is mainly East Saint Louis.

That one tall building looks a lot like one of the old Taylor buildings on the south side along State St. east of the Ryan. Over the last 10 years almost all of Taylor has been torn down. The Neighborhood east of there is still a tough area though, all the way down to East 95th St. I'm a trucker, been hauling meat to Chicago for almost 30 years. Used to work at 2000 West 43rd in 1982-83, by Farley Candy and the Damen overpass that isn't there anymore. I have friends that work at the steel mill at Roosevelt and Kostner too. Too bad I can't just send the pictures stored in my head!!!
Chicago like most other major metropolitan areas has its good places along with its bad ones. Many of those who live in extremely poor community did not necessarily choose to be in those areas or that predicament; however, I do believe that better can be attained if one desires so. The power lies within our choice to change the situation

im from chicago. i lived on the northside "humboldt park" and these pictures are no where near as bad as it gets in the city of chicago.
the brown brick building is the last of the jane addams houses (one of the first housing projects in the USA) on near taylor & loomis intersection. As you can see its boarded up and no longer used - it will be made into a 'museum of public housing' whenever they get the money or it.The taller white building is a currently used project around halsted and division. If there's one terribly inhumane thing that came out of the last 40+ years of machine democrat politics in Chicago - it has to be the establishment of these housing 'communities'. They've essentally told a generation of people that they're not intelligent enough, capable enough, or responsible enough to take care of themselves. Hence, you have the generational level of poverty, apathy, and dependence. Furthermore, by eliminating as many sources of responsibility as possible to allow people to be left to their own devices and resort to crime to establish means for themselves. This is slavery in the 20th-21st century - not explicit slavery like in the 1800s but implicit, psychologic, and political slavery under the welfare state.
I lived in Cabrini Green for most of my childhood and i would not wish that kind of living on anyone. Now im 19 and iv been fourtuate enough to be adopted by loving parents. So not everyone from Cabrini turns out to be scum.
