Philadelphia

I grew up about 20 minutes south of philly, my whole family descended from there. Just like any other city it has it's good and bad. Some of the worst areas have some of the most beautiful graffiti.

i went to college in phila. and will tell you that the ultimate shithole on earth is north philadelphia. west philly might have more murders, but north phila with its abandoned blocks of crumbling crackhouses wins hands down.

went through there recently b/c i had to. surprise! it got even worse. didn't think it was possible.

Unlike Center City Philadelphia, other area's such as north, south, southwest, etc dont have people hired to keep it clean. People start to loose faith and they give up. In center city you will see a trash can on every corner. In other places in philly you dont see a trash can but you do see the police everywhere. When the trash truck drops trash on the ground they just leave it there! They dont even pick it up. Its sad but its what we have to face everyday. I can clean outside my home but I cant make my neighbors clean. When the wind blows you cant even tell I cleaned. Sad So Sad. Its home and I love it. I will say that if I had more money I would move to a better neighborhood.

Philadelphia is a great city: you just have to know where NOT to go. Stay in Center City, University City, Society Hill, or Old City. If you not familiar with the city, stay away from anywhere north of Girard Ave, west of 49th street, and south of Christian St.

But don't let it's reputation deprive you of a wonderful city.

Umm, most of that is not graffiti, they're one of the hundreds of murals that are a part of the City's Mural Arts program.

I've lived in Center City for 2 yrs, and everyday, i wake up hoping i'll wake up somewhere else. I'm planning the move now, so I'm so excited. If you did not grow up in a place like this, you will never understand it. The people are so ghetto and un educated. If you take public transportation, you can bet, women are yelling, often cursing at their young kids, to shut up, all while patting their weeves. (cause it itches, as i could not wait to add to my knowledge)... Every block u walk is a sad story asking for change..At first, I acknowledged them, til one day, i said I had no change while shuffling my bills... the man wrinkled his brow, eyeing my bills, and with accusation, said " well u have a five bitch, I'll take that".. My parents taught me the world owes me nothing..u work to get what u want... apparently, this poor person did not learn that...felt i owed it to them.. Lesson learned, by me. Not everyone in the world has good parents, good life, or morals.. I'm sorry for them, but I can't save anyone. They don't need five dollars, they need help way beyond my knowledge.. When I was new here, I bought a woman a hotdog instead of giving money... She didn't say thank you, started to eat it, and said, "couldn't afford nothin' better? HA" I'm done trying. this place is not happy or kind. It's a battleground.

Oh, as an added bonus to the ladies whom are thinking of living here...pack nothing but black polish for the toes, one hour walking through the city will blacken the best pedi...U have to wear flops cause it's so hot, but u have to scrub & expholiate ur feet everytime u come home. I call my black flip flops, my philly flops. No need to ever buy light colored, like u would in the suburbs, or anywhere else but here. Oh, and if you don't like dirt, move to Chicago! Very clean city.

Philly just like every other urban city throughout the world has its problems but its about seeing the beauty throughout it all. If we didnt have citites like philly, the world wouldnt have balance and people would not be individuals. Philly has sooo much culture but people dont see that because they rather judge but the physical qualities. Yea some sections of the city is bad and the people are ignorant but you will never find people who are so real and cultural. I Love My City, Born && Raised in North Philly, I got out and explored the world. I know there is no better place than the cities of the East Coast!

kevin,

there is some truth about what anonymous is saying. this city is controlled by a large racial divide that turns people against each other. I live in north philly (west) and black people are acting like fucking idiots over here. i hear shots almost everyday and ive had to pull my gun out on more than three people breaking into my house. my cars been stolen, ive been mugged, and its all by blacks (60% of the city).

when i got to different bad neighborhoods that white people live in, like kensington or south east philly (3rd and snyder) all they do is shoot up thier dope and nod out of your way. not as much violence.

can you blame people for becomming racist?

where are you from in philly?

i lived in indianapolis for 19 years, memphis for 6 years, philly for 3 years, and now i'm in Pittsburgh, let me just start by saying memphis wasn't too bad. pittsburgh is hardly bad at all, philly is kinda ghetto, but indianapolis IS ROUGH. The neighborhood i grew up in was on the eastside of indy, a neighborhood called brightwood. look it up, u gotta grow up with a gun round there. it is NO games. 1.DONT RUN YOUR MOUTH.
2.DONT MUG PEOPLE UNLESS YOU WANNA GET SHIT STARTED.
3.DONT STOP AT ANY STOPLIGHT NEAR BRIGHTWOOD/2G/HARDPART/BRICKCITY/HAUGHVILLE/TRE-4/DAMN NEAR ANYWHERE! PEOPLE IN INDY COULD CARE LESS. LOTS OF LOW INCOME PEOPLE, GHETTO PEOPLE. SCREAMING/FIGHTING/SHOOTING ALL DAY LONG! YOU GUYS THINK PHILLY IS BAD? GO TO INDY.. ITS THE WORST PLACE I HAVE LIVED IN ALL MY YEARS.. NO JOBS TO FIND, EVERYONE IN THE HOOD HAS TO SELL DOPE/ROB/KILL FOE MONEY. the schools are very bad, from experience i had to carry a switchblade in elementary cuz i would get jumped everyday. middle school is when i had to step up to a gun. my first gun was a glock .40 in 7th grade. without that gun god knows where i would be right now. it saved me numerous times.

Actually, the inner city in Philly as hateful and dangerous at it may look to the outside is far less hateful to the outside and even vice versa than to themselves. The same dark skinned, uneducated out-of-shape sistas who will be hateful to a very iffy white-looking multiracial woman like me if I walk next to Kevin wear the same long blonde weaves they are paying at lead $150 to get while their children sit in dirty diapers, get blue contact lenses from stores not qualified or clean enough to sell them, would never want any part of Kevin if he wasn't with somebody else because he isn't sagging or wearing a tight pink T-shirt a girl should wear while being blatantly disrespectful to them, and when I am alone they might just be trying to get next to me on the sly while the brothers will be a lot more open and unapologetic from exhaustion from the bull endured from such females than you could imagine. That is exactly what I saw happen every day there for five years. Just food for thought...

From Inglewood Ca, raised in Compton Califiornia and various parts of Los Angeles... It's amazing to hear such stories about Philly, in which I've never been but really want to visit! Sometimes you feel your city is the only fucked up place in America cuz that's what you see everyday but this is a worldwide epidemic..... Cali got its low Down dirty areas where they dont give a fuck about us, they brought the guns the drugs liquor stores on every corner and lil baptist churches too! Bums prostitutes Bangers on every corner.... The hoods are so close to each other you wonder why they ain't killed each other off yet! I mean this is not even the half! People die left and right here! But I see it's not just my city, this is world wide right here.... But I love the East Coast.... When I was in DMV area and traveled thru maryland to Delaware to New Jersey to New York, the Bronx and Harlem I was in Awe! Beautiful in its rarest form! Intrigued beyond words! I love the east coast' history... I respect it

I love philly!!! It needs work and people who care but it has so much culture and history and potential!! I live in west Philly . People are ignorant regardless of race or socioeconomic status. I work at Upenn and even there the "educated people" can be horrible. I have learnt not to judge, my job takes me into people's house's in all the neighborhoods mentioned as rough. Not all the people who live there are uneducated or ignorant some are just stuck!! Finances keep them there.

Bill Cosby grew up with the REAL Fat Albert in North Philadelphia. Their housing projects were on Marshal St. Back then (the 1940s & 1950s) those neighborhoods consisted of hard working "blue collar" families, most of whom were city and factory workers. That's why Bill Cosby's "animated" North Philadelphia seems so far removed from "harsh reality." The cartoon was "geared" for a 1970s audience. The clothing worn by Fat Albert and the Cosby kids was a mixture of 1950s AND 1970s attire! But one thing's for certin: All those old neighborhoods (and they do "look" like the ruins of the neat old places Bill Cosby depicts in the old Fat Albert show)consist of boarded up old row-houses. How the people that used to live there found "parking" is beyond me. Those crumbling old streets are rediculously "narrow!" Even the SIDEWALKS would have been too "tiny" for Bill, Albert and the rest to shoot MARBLES on! You'd get hit by a damn car just steppin' out the front door! Anyway, those days and those good civil citizens are mostly long gone now. No more Rhythm and Blues music, no more "doo wop, no more smells of food cooking in the oven," no more old time black gospel music,.. No more authentic "culture", NOTHIN'! Nothin' but ugliness, drugs, violence, crack-houses, racism (which always has a probem there, but nowhere NEAR as bad as "today!" Let me "warn" you: If you're white, stay the hell OUT of North Philly! They Fuckin' POACH white people there! And I'm a freakishly "maroon" GINGER KID! In fact, if you're black and your skin is a tad too LIGHT, you can get killed! They don't call that city "KILLADELPHIA" for nothin, jack!**Truth is, the "hoods" in those condemned old projects are just looking for any "excuse" to shed more blood! It doesn't have to even be a "valid' excuse!) Those old neighborhoods have been deserted for DECADES. Bill Cosby, his baby brother Russell, Rudy Davids, and the others (who's "real" names have never been revealed) wouldn't even "recognize" those neighborhoods today! And all evidence suggests that the real Fat Albert (not surprisingly) died many years ago. And they "know better" than to try to visit the place even for "Old Time Sake"... too violent. The area around Marshal St. is one of the "worst" most war-torn parts North philly. There are no more "good times to be had in that god forsaken "shit-pit!" If you want to "see' it, it is still kinda "neat." .. In a sad kind of way. You can visit those old neighborhoods by getting on "Google" or "Bing" (those are the best search engines) type in North Philadelphia, then go to the top of the screen and click "IMAGES." That's the only safe way to "tour" the place. You can also check it out on "Google Maps." That's the way to do it. For god sake don't ever actually "GO" there. You'll also get to see how "eerie" those abandoned sections of town (they go on for MILES and MILES)have become. Those streets have got to be haunted by all the THOUSANDS of people who've been murdered there over the past four and a half decades. Go there, and your spirit may never get to 'leave!' Go there "online" and you'll be just fine

The Everest Base Camp trek has been the most popular attraction in the Khumbu region, north east of Kathmandu since the peak was conquered in 1953. Its scenery is amongst the most dramatic in the Nepal Himalaya and takes you closer to the ice covered giants than any other trekking trails.
This 16 days Everest base Camp trek is not an easy hiking and requires a fair level of fitness and stamina as the trail begins at 2780m with your 35 minute Mountain flight to Lukla and after the first day, is mainly above 3000m. Mountain Mart Trek experienced adventure team has designed this trek to minimize the risk of AMS (mountain sickness) by including two rest days in Namche Bazar (4,360 m/14,300 ft) and Dingboche (4,360 m/14,300 ft)

Gokyo Trek, which can be either side trip of Everest Base Camp Trek or just single trip, is one of the best places with several lakes through out the trail and even in front of settlement in 3rd lake of Gokyo. Gokyo Valley Trek is famous for its vantage view point of Gokyo RI from where one can view four eight thousand meter mountain. Gokyo Valley Trekking is best to start from Lukla and terminate on Lukla, which will last around ten days in total and offer some of the exceptional view of lakes and mountains. Listed on Ramsar Site (Wetland) there are six different lakes named from Gokyo 1st Lake to Gokyo 6th Lake. Even for Nepali Citizens Gokyo Valley is sacred place with holy lake of Gokyo 3rd where huge celebration used to occur once a year. Gokyo Lake Trek can be best alternative those who want to avoid hustle and bustle as it is very clam and quite in compare to crazy trekkers on base camp side.

Gokyo Chola Pass Trekking

If you want to add twist on trek then Gokyo Chola Pass Trekking is perfect blend of Gokyo Valley and Everest Base Camp as one single pass named Chola connect both valleys on one walking day. Gokyo Chola Pass Trek last for eighteen days in general, which is little big tough in compare individual trek as Chola Pass is bit tricky with rocky section and crevasse on the top of passes on ground full of hard ice. Chola Pass Trek is recommended to be accompanied by guide as it is technically bit difficult with steep up and down on pass day with absence of tea houses on the middle of trail before traversing to next side.

I know this post is old, but I stumbled upon it when looking for pics of North Philly on the internet. Like other people have said I LOVE PHILLY. I was bron and raised in North Philly. I went to college out of state and went to Howard to get my Master's degree. I am now working on a PhD. With that being said, North Philly is what made me who I am. It has made me an intellect and a scholar. Some of the most beautiful people and minds come from North Philly. My family still lives there and i go home every chance I get. I also plan on raising my children in North Philly to show them that your zip code does not define you or predict your future.

North Philly is the future for American cities with few exceptions. Detroit, Chicago , St Louis etc are all on the same curve. The only entity holding up Center City is the Jefferson Medical School complex and all its good works. Mass immigration coupled with municipal bankruptcies and endless federal and State dole programs will seal our cities fates for generations.

I lived in Philly years ago on maybe 2 or 3 different occasions. I have family in Philly and a sibling who was borned in Philly. I visit Philly quite frequently for business and for pleasure. I enjoy the visits but I've lived there and visited there enough to know and recognize the good and the bad. It's not any place I'd want to live permanently. It's actually kind of dreary and has a sense of unhappiness especially when it comes to the neighborhoods in certain areas PARTICULARLY North Philly where my aunt lives. It's overcome with ruins in my opinion. I just want to scoop my aunt up and make her leave that God forsaken place but she loves it there and I love her so I make it a point to drop in and see her. But it's definitely not a place where I'd choose to live. I make sure I visit all of my family, stay for about a week, enjoy a yummy, authentic cheese steak then quickly catch the next thing with wings and fly away from there. I'll visit but I won't live there.

The murder rate is one of the highest in the nation. THE IMPORTED POLICE COMMISSIONER
Is unqualified for the position she holds.
She should be sent back to Portland. T DA is the world's biggest TURD. He known as SET THEM FREE after they are caught murdering someone. Philadelphia the asshole of the world.
