Hunters Point! what a great neighborhood, RTIGHT! This piece of land used to be used as a toxic waste dump by the U.S. Military. Now residents of this poor neighborhood are faced with health hazards. There has been an increase of people getting sick with asthma and cancer. This is a crime that the city has yet have had to answer for. . .

I think these photos are actually of the Potrero Hill housing projects, where OJ Simpson grew up.

To be fair, most of the projects in SF have actually been remodeled and broken up, moving away from this institutional model to newer, smaller buildings that look like suburban apartment complexes, scattered throughout the city rather than concentrated just a few areas.

Unfortunately, while this sounds like a good idea, it hasn't made any difference in the level of violence. Gang activity is still heavy, and several people have been shot lately in the new, improved projects in the Western Addition.

No, this is the Sunnydale projects just south of McLaren park. You can see the street signs in one of the pics: Santos and Blythdale. It's the largest and worst housing project area in the city - completely isolated. Used to be barracks for WWII soldiers in the 40s. Sketchy.

One of my first sexual experiences was a Japanese girl in the Sunnyvale projects. Apparently she was giving handjobs to make ends meet. I just got a free finger bang that night :) I'm a white guy and walking there at night was scary. Not as scared as the black lady opening her door and seeing me walk by to my friends house. I was also amazed by the number of cats out at night. Lots of overgrown areas including the sidewalk. Her place was literally CRAWLING with cockroaches and she apparently was oblivious to them. I actually had small outbreak of them at MY house a few days after seeing her. Anyhow The police drove by and I was scared they would stop me but now I'm shocked they didn't stop me. What the HELL is this white guy doing here. I don't dress Hip-Hopish. I did have a huge can of pepper spray in my pocket. Most nights are quiet though. It used to be worse, SF had the Geneva towers. They were torn down a few years ago.

It's the people not the houses that makes the ghetto. I am in the middle income bracket and my townhouse I own is similar to these ones. In matter of fact if these were up for sale and the area was low of crime and safe, I would buy and live there. Does need a new paint job with modern color. And why arent there any gardens?? You can grow fruits and vegetables with all that field. Even flowers and then sell them to florists, etc.
